Véronique Buist est une artiste multidisciplinaire qui travaille principalement la fibre textile. C’est en explorant la broderie qu’elle en est également venue à s’intéresser au médium qu’est le papier, à la fabrication de celui-ci et au potentiel poétique qui s’en dégage. La fibre textile est donc à la fois support, motif brodé et sujet d’étude : une vocation multiple qui se décline à l’infini.

Ces recherches interrogent principalement la notion de la perception - figurative ou littérale - dans l’élaboration de textures et translation de concept en motifs brodés. Le paysage et l’environnement tels que nous le percevons est une vaste source d’inspiration dans sa pratique.

Bachelière en arts visuels et médiatiques de l’UQÀM (2010), elle vis et travaille à Montréal. Son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs manifestations artistiques dont la Toronto Outdoor Art Fair et Artist Project à Toronto, la foire d’art contemporain de St-Lambert (8e et 9e édition), le Trabendo à la Villette à Paris, le Forum des arts de St-Malo ainsi qu’au Zaratan Arte Contemporanea Arte Center de Lisbonne pour ne nommer que ceux-ci. 

Plusieurs résidences artistiques s’ajoutent au cursus, avec soutien du Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (2017), de Les Offices jeunesse internationaux du Québec (de 2017 à 2020), le Conseil des arts du Canada (2020) et la SODEC (2022). Son travail est maintenant représenté par la galerie C.O.A. à Montréal.

artist statement

Véronique Buist is an artist who mainly works with textile fiber. It was while exploring embroidery that she also became interested in the medium of paper, its production and the poetic potential that emerges from it. The textile fiber is therefore both a support, an embroidered motif and a subject of study: a multiple vocation that has infinite potential.

Her research mainly questions the notion of perception - figuratively or literally - in the elaboration of textures and translation of concepts into embroidered patterns. The landscapes and the environment as we perceive is a vast source of inspiration in my practice.

With a bachelor degree in visual and media arts from UQÀM (2010), she lives and works in Montreal. Her work has been presented in several artistic events including the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and Artist Project in Toronto, the contemporary art fair of St-Lambert (8th and 9th edition), the Trabendo at La Villette in Paris, the Forum des arts de St-Malo as well as at the Zaratan Arte Contemporanea Arte Center in Lisbon, to name a few.

Several artistic residencies are added to her curriculum, with support from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (2017), Les Offices jeunesse internationales du Québec (from 2017 to 2020), the Canada Council for the Arts (2020) and SODEC ( 2022). She is now represented by the gallery C.O.A. in Montreal.
